Coping with COVID-19

Coping with COVID

Well, if the news during the last few weeks has you worried and concerned, you are not alone. All of the information about the COVID-19 virus, exposure, death rates, quarantines, washing hands, touching faces, hand shaking, social distance and toilet paper has frightened many of us into high states of uneasiness and fear.

But, as with any frightening situation, it is best not to panic. Stay calm and take the recommended precautions. Sometimes things are not nearly as grave as is portrayed on the news.

So how do we stay calm during the barrage of alarming information that we are faced with every day, all day?

Here are some things you can do to help yourself:

  • Don’t read, watch or listen to news stories, or social media, all day. You need to take a break from it. Hearing about the pandemic constantly can be distressing.

  • Take care of yourself. Do breathing exercises, stretch, or meditate. Eat healthy, well-balanced meals, exercise, get plenty of sleep.

  • Take time for relaxation and doing things you enjoy.

  • Talk with other people about your concerns.

  • If your daily activities become difficult, because of the worry and fear, for several days in a row, call your healthcare provider.
